H.M.S."SUNFISH"
Submarine, Shark Class
The Shark class of sea-going submarines is of
improved Swordfish design. It numbers eight
ships and consists of a useful though relatively
small type of vessel. The Sunfish is one of the
latest additions, having been completed in
1937. Her armament consists of one 3-inch
gun and six tubes for 21-inch torpedoes. She
can dive with great rapidity, an advantage
when patrolling in coastal waters. Her ton-
nage is 670 on the surface and 960 when
submerged, with respective speeds of 15 and
10 knots, corresponding with horse powers
of 1,900 and 1,300. She has a complement of
40, and is capable of carrying 40 tons of fuel.
The cost of these vessels varies between
Sterling 230,000 and Sterling 245,000.
The Sunfish was built at Chatham Dockyard.
